Can I go to the snow with a motorhome Hertz Trois Soleils?
All the Hertz Trois Soleils motorhomes & campervan are perfectly insulated and equipped in order to guarantee you an optimal comfort during the winter season and in the mountain.
In order to enjoy your holidays during the snow season, here are some useful tips to ease your life on board.
- Bring snow chains for your safety and to meet the government obligation to have snow equipment on board the vehicle to be able to cross the mountain departments from November 1 to March 31.
- You must be careful about your energy resources:
- Fill your fuel tank. Most of the heater use fuel. If your heater uses the gas, regularly change your bottle (each 4-5 days in case of negative temperature). It is compulsory to check that the burnt gas outlet are not blocked by the snow.
- If your heat runs with fuel, keep it on when you drive. Do not stop the heater when you leave the motorhome and you can put it down a little. To keep a constant temperature on board allows you to improve the self-sufficiency of your living compartment battery.
- It is better to connect you to the 220V, in order to improve the self sufficiency of your living compartment battery.
- Thanks to a good insulation, you can make good energy savings. Use an insulating curtain that you will put in the windscreen as soon as the night comes and that you put away in the morning so there is no condensation.
- The drains might freeze. Therefore, you must leave the drain valve of the waste water opened and put a bucket or container in order to get back the liquid.
- Once you park, it is better not to put the parking brake. It might be blocked. It is better to start a gear engagement.
We wish you very good winter holidays and to enjoy the mountains and the snow with Hertz Trois Soleils.

You must pick up your motorhome on the first day of your rental at the time you chose when booking. Likewise for the return of the vehicle on the last day of your rental, you must respect the time you chose when you made your reservation.
It is imperative to return the motorhome at the scheduled time in order to leave enough time for the station to carry out maintenance on the vehicle. In the same way that previous renters have brought the motorhome back on time, you must also adhere to these times.
Please note that in case of delay, you are likely to be penalized. You can find more information about this in article 5.2 of our rental terms and conditions
Which model of motorhome is the best for renting?
The ideal motorhome / RV for your rental will depend on several criteria:
1) Your number
First of all the number you are and more precisely the number of adults and the number of children. Indeed our vehicles have a capacity of sleeping places ranging from 4 people (2 adults + 2 children) with our campervan or our compact low profile, up to 7 people (4 adults + 3 children) with our family overcab.
You will find all this information on our "Motorhomes" pages.
2) The type of motorhome
We have 4 different types of motorhomes: low profile, campervan, integral, overcab:
LOW PROFILE
Vehicle with a very aerodynamic design (elongated shape), which makes it possible to consume less than with a overcab. It is the most popular of motorhomes, so we offer you a wide range of low profile motorhomes, ranging from 2 to 5 people, from the most compact to the most comfortable.
Our models: Mini Low Profile (A) | Family Low Profile (B) | Great Comfort Low Profile (Y) | Twin Low Profile (W)
CAMPERVAN
The campervan retains the original bodywork of the vehicle. Cousin of the "utility" van, it has a specific exterior decoration and additional openings (windows, vents ...). Like any motorhome rented by Hertz, it offers sleeping facilities, a kitchen and a bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. It is discreet and a size often less important than other motorhomes. It is more manoeuvrable, allows to move and park easily in towns and cities.
Our models: Compact Campervan (V) | Maxi Campervan (F)
INTEGRAL
Only the luxury integral motorhome has a totally original silhouette that does not remind anything of the original carrier. Indeed, it does not retain any bodywork element of the vehicle from which it borrows the mechanical part. The driver's cab is "integrated" in the entire motorhome. As a result, it is a high-end vehicle that offers a beautiful living space and panoramic vision behind the wheel.
Our model: Luxury Integral (Z)
OVERCAB
This motorhome is a mythical and instantly recognizable vehicle. The room above the driver's cab is called "capucine" and has a spacious double bed. The family Overcab offers 7 beds, 2 independent tables (one for playing and one for cooking for example), plenty of storage space and a comfortable height under ceiling.
Our model: Family Overcab (C)
3) The type of bed
Transverse bed, bunk beds, central bed, twin beds, front dining area bed.
We invite you to consult our french blog article presenting the different types of beds that you will find in our motorhomes.
Read our blog article on the different types of beds in our motorhomes
How does the electricity work on board the motorhome?
How to recharge the cell battery?
The living area battery of the motorhome is the battery that allows you to have energy in the living area of the motorhome. This battery is generally recharged in 2 ways:
- Driving: For a full battery charge, you need to drive 600km. This means that you have to make long stages if you want to be independent during your vacation. Fortunately, there is another method of recharging:
- By plugging the motorhome into a power outlet. When you are stopped, you will have to connect the motorhome to the electrical network, so that the living area battery is recharged. In addition, you will have electricity on board and the 220v socket will work.
- The solar panel: Thanks to solar energy you will be able to maintain the charge of the cell battery and gain autonomy. You will no longer need to connect to electricity to recharge the living area battery.
How to get 220v in a motorhome?
The 220v socket on board the motorhome will only work if the motorhome is connected to the electricity network. When in the evening, you stop at a motorhome site or at a campsite, or at a friend's house, you can plug the motorhome into a socket or an electrical terminal. You will then have electricity on board and the 220v socket will work. The extension cord and adapter are provided during the rental.
How to recharge your electrical devices: telephones, computers, tablets, bluetooth speakers...?
You will find USB sockets in the motorhome. They will allow you to charge your mobile devices at all times: while driving, when stationary, whether or not the vehicle is connected to electricity. It is understood that these sockets work as long as the living area battery has a charge.
For electrical devices that are not recharged by USB, the vehicle must be connected to the electrical network and use the 220v socket of the motorhome. You can also use a converter.
Converter is not included with rental. It is a box that plugs into a cigarette lighter socket. There is a 220v socket on the converter, so you can charge a computer. But be careful, 12v/220v converters are power hungry, and risk quickly discharging the cell battery.
What happens if the living area battery is not recharged regularly?
The cell battery is fragile. They are called "slow discharge batteries". You must be careful never to fully discharge it, otherwise it will no longer recharge, or badly. In addition, if you have inadvertently discharged the living area battery completely, nothing will work in the living area of the motorhome. Therefore, farewell: lighting, phone charging, hot water, fridge (even if it runs on gas, the piezo is electric)... Be careful.
